Just in case someone out there has yet to experience this masterpiece:

Oh Taylor, you are a class act. Aside: I listened to her album Fearless like all day today (while running instances in Warcraft, haha) and I gotta say, that is some catchy shit.

Also, I feel it's time to revisit this classic, as Susan Sarandon is now single. (CALL ME SUSAN!!!!!!!!!)

Christmas and New Year's [Jan. 5th, 2010|02:03 pm]

jellibean
I should probably write about Christmas and New Year's, huh? Nggh.

Christmas was good. My parents and I had Christmas on Christmas Day and then went to my Grandparents' house for Family Christmas on the day after. That was weird, because we usually get together on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, but overall it was fun.

From my parents, I got an external hard drive, some pretty sweaters, a dress watch, Star Trek and "Something Something Something Dark Side" on DVD, the Philosophy "Cookbook" set, and lots of sweets. My dad put Little Debbie Christmas Tree cakes in my and my mom's stocking! ^_^

Family Christmas was the best it's been in a few years, but the sheer number of people was kind of overwhelming. (Especially since just about everyone has to know everything that's going on with everyone at all times. It was kind of like a game of Telephone, except with nosy people haha.) Sneaky Santa was even fun this year--pretty much everyone brought a non-gag gift. The only exceptions were two of my cousins, who brought a Chia Obama and one of those sound magnifier things--but the latter cousin also attached a Dillards gift card, so even that wasn't a horrible gift. (In the past, I've ended up with things like a Chia Shrek, light-up tweezers, and a 1992 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Calendar.) I know Christmas isn't about gifts, but it also shouldn't be about your family laughing at the fact that you picked the crank flashlight and lint roller. Anyways, I had fun with my family.

Joe and I haven't had our Christmas yet, and neither have my friends at the Townhouse. Our semester schedule got CRAZY after Thanksgiving--as in, one week of classes and then exams--so I was the only one who got any shopping done. ^_^ I'm looking forward to doing that when I get back in Knoxville.

Nashville-wise, AP was my Secret Santa, and he got me Batman: Dark Victory, the graphic novel that comes after The Long Halloween. I can't wait to read it. :D And Derek got me a pink Incipio case for my iPhone, which is AWESOME. I can barely tell it's even on my phone; it's smooth and grippy, but I can still put it in my pocket. (I couldn't do that with my Silicone Paul Frank case.) Plus, it won't stretch out the way my PF case did.

New Year's was pretty boring. I drove in on New Year's Eve from Knoxville and stayed at home all night. I got the DSL network set up at my parents' house, though, so it wasn't totally uneventful, just not all that exciting. We watched the ball drop in New York (which was delayed cause of the time change--LAME) and my mom complained about the Black Eyed Peas' performance on ABC. I went to bed fairly early (considering it was New Year's.) But I figure that my Atlanta trip and the Gaga concert were my early New Year celebration, and I really needed some time to rest.

Ask me one fandom-related question in the comments. This can be fandom specific, general, or about fandom/lj stuff/fic writing/etc. in general. Just one question, please, but it can (and perhaps should) have sub-parts. Question can be as wacky as you want. Ask me about tv shows, characters, fanfic in general, fandom issues/meta, anything about any of my stories specifically. Whatever you want.

Not sure if I'll answer these in the comments or a separate post, but I promise you I WILL ANSWER ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING YOU ASK. It's the weekend for me, I got time!

The Year of the Rock Star [Jan. 4th, 2010|09:56 pm]

[Tags|, ]

Never one to miss a good zeitgeist, I am joining in with [info]nancyblue, [info]dixiemouse, [info]girlpurple, and others in declaring that 2010 is going to be Year of the Rock Star for me. It only seems fitting, since, to be frank, 2009 sucked and I want to make orphans of its children. Don't get me wrong...2009 also delivered me a very, very important thing. I'm now in Silicon Valley, where I've wanted to be, where [info]nancyblue is happy, and where work might have a little better stability. The circumstances under which it happened were horrible, though, and it really knocked me hard.

I mean, I did what Adama would do, and I rolled the hard six, and I won. And then, like Adama, I watched a bunch of other tragic shit happen. There was even a casualty in the family. I've sufficiently had it with everything in 2009 that I'm not even going to bother writing about my experiences back home over the holidays. I have a couple of things that are still mildly ongoing that I'll write about soon enough, but outside of that, I just want to get on with another year.

Obviously, my major rock star moment this year will be AIDS/LifeCycle. I kicked off Operation Running Up That Hill (ORUTH) today with my first lunchtime training ride. Added 12 miles with a 45 minute ride through Cupertino, Mountain View, and Sunnyvale. I hadn't exactly planned the route, and actually thought I had gotten lost at one point, so I'm not bothered by coming up a few miles short of the 15 mile quota. It was a pretty route, too. I'll be doing it again, for sure. Something tells me I'll be seeing a lot of Silicon Valley over the next six months.

I also started the fund raising process with a rather modest wall message on Facebook. I'll be starting on LiveJournal soon enough, and I need to quickly think up how I'm going door-to-door. Apparently, it's encouraged to offer sponsorship (i.e. jersey space in exchange for donations), and I think I might try to throw out a few letters to deep pockets and see what comes up that way, too.

I also fully intend to kick more ass at work. I have a better plan for being a show-off, something my boss explicitly asked me to be.

Honestly, a certain amount of emotional exhaustion just kept me quiet and humble last year, and I need to fix that.

Outside of that, though, I'm not 100% sure what bringing out my rock star is. I guess I need to fix that quickly

2010 [Jan. 3rd, 2010|11:06 pm]

tk7602
hello there, new year. how are you? i've had a cold, but otherwise i'm doing well.

let's see, what's going on?

i'm moving ahead with the "finishing the basement" project. i've repointed and walled in about 1/4" of the place now. one wall is still open while i sort out electrical stuff. it's looking good, if i do say so myself :)

we got a wii, and have been playing around with wii fit. i'm digging it so far. it's fun, and i do manage to work up my heart rate pretty nicely. and doing it as a penguin trying to catch fish is way more fun than as a guy in a gym.

we also reactivated weight watchers, and have been on-plan for 4 days now. whee fun!

new years eve was spent with the waltham music scene at harper's ferry. crazy show with tons of tribute bands, waltham the band, and other madness. good stuff!

we saw avatar in imax 3d and i was just awed by the technology that went into it. definitely the most believable cg world i've seen. i absolutely loved the movie and really want to see it again.

back to work tomorrow. after so much time off it's both exciting to be back and a bit of a downer. ah well, we must pay the bills!

it's almost election time in 501st land. leadership transitions are always interesting. this year could prove very interesting indeed.

In order to get to Jersey in time for my early morning call for "Mercy," I get to wake up at 4:30am. Yay. So fancy! Oh yes kids, tv sets are so glamorous with their sleep deprivation.

Today I woke up super early and in a fit of productivity went to the grocery store and drug store... at eight am. Seriously, after you buy groceries at eight am, what's left for the day? I also used a ladder to hide luggage in overhead storage and sliced my hand open on a can. Apparently you can put a dish of water on a radiator to function as a humidifier. I've been fighting this stupid sore throat for a MONTH now and the dry air as been irritating it, so I decided I'd rinse out a soup can... I'm a moron who didn't sleep enough and I stuck my hand INSIDE the can in order to wash out soupy bits... and yeah, I totally made myself bleed my own blood. This can of water better be the best damn humidifier ever now! I did get to tie up my hand with gauze in order to stop the bleeding though, so now I look hardcore.

Oh and laundry was accomplished today! Or is currently be accomplished. You don't understand. I live in a walk up. There is no elevator. There are only stairs of PAIN. Laundry is an achievement. I was very sad that someone else was using one of the machines and I could only wash my colors and had to leave the whites til another day... but "Mercy" wants "jewel tones" which means my colors need to be washed. Fun! By the way I'll be a bar patron. I have no idea what this means in the context of the show. I'm sure it'll be fun though. I hope breakfast is provided. It should be provided. I require orange juice and bacon if I'm waking up at 4:30am to be in Jersey.

It's almost 2010 in Knoxville (prob will be by the time I post this), but I'm in Nashville, so I have another hour. ;) I drove back to Nashville today, so I didn't really feel like going out, but now I wish I'd made plans. Oh well, the Monster Ball was my early New Year's Bash. ^_^

Anyways, I hope everyone has a safe and very happy New Year! I hope to see you in 2010!
